MEET TERRI GUTHRIE
Luxury Travel Journalist & Modern Explorer
Through storytelling and exploration, I’m passionate about inspiring travelers to embrace adventure, seek understanding, and discover the beauty of our world—one journey at a time. As a Travel Journalist and Podcaster, my work focuses on luxury travel for romantic couples’ getaways and meaningful multigenerational experiences. I believe travel deepens connection, strengthens families, and creates memories that last a lifetime.
People often ask how I became a travel writer. The truth is, the path found me. My background in radio and years of volunteer work shaped my voice, my curiosity, and my love for connecting with people—making this career feel like a natural extension of who I’ve always been.
Southern Roots & High-Flying Adventures
I was born and raised in the Deep South, in a family that loved to travel. My appreciation for the world began early, through road trips, flights, and the excitement of discovering new places. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Communications and Journalism, I married my college sweetheart, Ron. Little did I know the adventure that awaited us.
Ron served as an officer in the United States Air Force and an F‑15 Fighter Pilot, giving us the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and communities. While stationed in Florida, I worked as a radio news broadcaster and reporter for WFTW and served as an announcer for the Florida AP Network News.
A Season of Service & Community
Seven years later, we moved to the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex when Ron was hired by Delta Air Lines. As we began our family, I stepped back from my career to raise our daughters and poured my energy into volunteer work.
Over the years, I taught English as a Second Language, led a children’s manners class, served as a tour guide at local historical sites, and taught a multicultural girls’ class at our church focused on global cultures and cuisine. I also held multiple leadership roles, serving as President of the Denton Benefit League, Denton High School PTA, Chi Omega Parents’ Clubs at both UNT and the University of Oklahoma, and the Texas Ariel Club’s Department of Culinary Arts. I later became an annual speaker at the University of North Texas Honors College fundraiser, Great Conversations.
From 30 Extra Passport Pages to a Lifelong Career
As our daughters grew up and Ron became an International Airline Captain, we found ourselves with the freedom to explore the world together. We often traveled internationally two to three times a month, immersing ourselves in extraordinary destinations.
Eventually, I began spending extended time in some of my favorite European cities while Ron flew other routes, and he would join me when he returned. I even had to have an extra 30 pages sewn into my U.S. passport to make room for more stamps. Those years were exciting, meaningful, and unforgettable—and they sparked the beginning of my travel writing career. I truly believe this path was meant for me.
Looking back, I can see how my years in radio and my many volunteer roles quietly prepared me for this work. They taught me how to listen deeply, connect with people from all walks of life, and tell stories that honor the heart of a place.
The Editorial Portfolio Today
For more than 20 years, I’ve been writing travel articles, and for over a year I’ve hosted my podcast, Travel With Terri, available on all major podcast platforms and YouTube. My articles are syndicated and appear in publications across Texas, North America, and beyond.
I am the monthly travel columnist for a dozen Lifestyle Magazines in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and Oklahoma City/Edmond, a contributor to Newsweek Magazine’s “Best Of” segment, and a partner with American Airlines Vacations. I also write travel features for The Cross Timbers Gazette, a regional DFW newspaper.
Travel has shown me, time and again, that no matter where we stand on the map, people are far more alike than different. That belief guides every journey I take and every story I tell.
My motto is simple: never pass up the opportunity to travel.
Adventure is always waiting—an invitation to listen, to learn, and to explore this magnificent world with curiosity and heart.
